My Perfect Oatmeal

Total Time: 15 mins Preparation Time: 5 mins Cook Time: 10 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 4
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cups old fashioned oats
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar or 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 pinch salt
  • fresh fruit (optional) or dried fruit, chocolate chips (optional) or nuts, for serving (optional)

Recipe

  • 1 combine all ingredients in a 3- to 4-quart heavy pot.
  • 2 bring to a boil over high heat, stirring occasionally. then reduce the heat to maintain a simmer and cook, stirring occasionally, until the oatmeal is creamy and a little thinner than you like it (about ten minutes, give or take).
  • 3 cool for a few minutes and serve topped with fresh or dried fruit, chocolate chips, or nuts.
